Innkeepers/Owners- Lauren & Bill Nickell in beautiful Yosemite Valley
Review of Sunset Inn from international travel guide:

FROMMER’S 'YOSEMITE AND SEQUOIA & KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARKS'
5th addition, 2006 by Eric Peterson

Considered an ‘insiders special find’ and ‘highly recommended’ by this renowned travel guide. "Sunset Inn is the perfect antidote to the hubbuh you encounter in the valley..."

Review of Sunset Inn from another terrific travel guide:

'MOON HANDBOOKS- YOSEMITE', BY ANN MARIE BROWN *

First Edition 2003

"For an unusual and secluded stay east of Groveland, try one of the three cabins at Sunset Inn. Located off the main highway, the cabins are set on a lush meadow surrounded by huge pine trees. If it's a hot summer day in Groveland, it will be much more comfortable here- you're at 4,500 feet elevation, the same as the Big Oak Flat entrance to Yosemite, which is a mere two miles away. The one- and two-bedroom cabins have queen-sized beds, fully equipped kitchens, private bathrooms, and wood burning stoves."
(Please note: these are one and two room studio cabins. Two of the three cabins have wood burning stoves.)

*We highly recommend this informative guide to Yosemite, and have a copy available for your use in each of our cabins.

Review from:

'TIME OUT CALIFORNIA', by Time Out Guides Ltd.

"Many visitors opt to stay at lodgings outside the park, sometimes because in-park lodgings are booked, sometimes because of the wider range of options 'outside'."
"An intimate choice within only a few miles of the park boundary is a cozy cabin at SUNSET INN."

We've been at this lovely place last year. The rooms are clean, the kitchen big enough for two persons and the bathroom was also good.
"Our" Sugar Pine Cabin is the best place to relax: No TV, no radio or internet - just real nature.
And the best: Sunset Inn is just a stone's throw away from Yosemite.
We'll come back in october this year.

We spent 2 nights at the Sunset Inn with our 17 month old...wished we were there longer :)

Great cabin with large kitchen and bathroom (no tub, only a large shower).

Hosts were very helpful and there was lots of local literature in the room, as well as games, cards, and books.

Deck out front, perfect for breakfast and dinner!!

BE SURE TO BRING FOOD...little market is 20 miles away (you can purchase eggs from the hosts...yummy!!)

We plan on returning with friends and renting out multiple cabins....great place to escape the craziness of the yosemite village in the summer and close to the hetch hetchy entrance.

There is a swing in the meadow and a picnic table out there as well :)

Highly recomended!!!

COMMENTS FROM OUR GUEST BOOKS

"11/6/6 (Or so) (Time seems irrelevant, except for the seasons, of course.) Gorgeous weather. Rays of sun penetrated the forest, brilliantly lighting the yellow leaves. It was beautiful. I would have suspected a photograph of such color to been "doctored". And, how appropriate to appreciate the Valley and above from a home base such as this: the quintessential, cozy comfortable cabin in the woods." Leelane & Fred, Los Altos, CA

"Tuesday night, August 9, 2005- After driving through 35 states and running up my Saturn's odometer 11,000 miles in the last eight weeks, this [SUNSET INN] is exactly the kind of place I want to be bedding down in." Eric Peterson, Frommers travel writer.

"I can't tell you how wonderful our stay was at the Larkspur Cabin. We talk about it often and wish we were back there again. We had very enjoyable experiences both during the evenings at the cabin and in the daytime at Yosemite. We've been telling all our friends and family what an unbelievably quiet, secluded and wonderful place we found to stay near Yosemite.
We're looking forward to coming back again some day soon."

What a place! It gave all that we needed; peace, tranquility, rest... A break from the rigours of modern living- not once did I feel I needed to hear news/blues. Although we live 6000 miles away, Yosemite & Sunset Inn will stay close. Hope to return- many thanks,

Bill & Lauren,
After many days of biking-hiking in Yosemite, it was wonderful to return to a welcome home. What a treat to see our first white headed woodpecker! Wow! It was a wonderful stay. Thanks for everything!
